I was assigned to Fourth Army G2 (intelligence staff) located in the historical quadrangle of Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

When I arrived, I found they already had a master sergeant who then automatically became excess.

Rather than replacing him as Operations Sergeant, I took over the security section which processed security clearance applications and other duties.

I supervised a civilian secretary for the only time in my career.

A few months later I was asked if I wanted to go to Panama.  After checking with my wife, I agreed.
